Lov-eis-Reason: Cursing

lov-eis-reason:

A lot of you probably think I’m backslidden or a heretic because I say things like: “Love. He’s all we fucking need.” You probably are spouting off verse after verse trying to justify your discomfort. You might try to reason why it is sin.

You probably completely ignored the message I was…

I almost always post longer posts as text instead of link, but I’m refraining from doing so because there are a healthy amount of curse words behind this cut, and I don’t want to be the cause of offense for any of my followers.

But I urge you to read it. This is a really intriguing, thoughtful post, and I’m thinking more and more that it’s usually a good idea to question exactly why we behave the way we do.

And if it doesn’t matter which side you come out on, why not think?

I happened to stumble upon a chapel last night.
And I can’t help but back up when I think of what’s happens inside.
I got friends locked in boxes. And no way to live.
But you call it a sin. Isn’t up to them.
After all, after all I thought we were all your children,
But I will die for my own sins thanks a lot.
We’ll raise up ourselves thanks for nothing at all, so up off the ground up for fathers who are nothing but dust now.

Fun. - One Foot

This breaks my heart. I know I’ve spoken on the topic before, but this song just utterly and entirely breaks my heart. Telling my Jesus that His death wasn’t enough. Telling my Jesus that His sacrifice isn’t wanted.

My heart is burdened for those filled with such hatred towards my God and King. It’s one thing to not believe in Him, but another entirely to point your finger into the heavens crying out “Thank you for nothing at all.”

^^^^

instead of judging this guy, I would like I encourage you to try and hear the heart behind this song, because I fear that a lot of times we see songs like this that artists have put their hearts into and fail I hear them the way Jesus does. I do not hear why the people above me hear. I ear instead an echo of my own heart, which longs for acceptance and love and honor. I have found all of those thing in Jesus but just because I have found doesn’t mean others aren’t still searching. And often, people look to the church to be example of Christ and we fail miserably. And to me, that is what, more than anything, this song speaks to. We really need to put our personal feelings aside and represent Christ instead of getting offended when we see that others are disappointed in what they have found so far. I guarantee you that Jesus is no offended or put off by things like this. What does break His heart, however, are those people who have claimed to e representing Him, but who have missed the mark in loving their neighbor. Less judgment, more love. Christianity is not a club.

Beautifully said.

When science says one thing, and bullshit says another, I’m going to stick with science. Thanks.

Hey Wil, I’m a fan of your work and general musings here on the Intertubes, but I really wish you would extend your “Don’t be a dick” rule to the way you treat the faith community.

I understand and agree that a lot of us who consider themselves Christians (or other deity-believing group) say stupid crap in the name of their God. But if you are going to break your own golden rule for the sake of your own self-righteousness, you don’t look a whole lot better.

I think we all get it. You’re atheist. How about we stop bullying other people for choosing otherwise. I’m pretty sure we share a lot of ideals and this is coming from a Bible-believing Christian. Filter through the stupid and realize that we aren’t all stuck in the stone ages.

Thanks.

The seas have lifted up, Lord,
    the seas have lifted up their voice;
the seas have lifted up their pounding waves.
Mightier than the thunder of the great waters,
mightier than the breakers of the sea—
the Lord on high is mighty.

Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.
